On March 3, 2020, the media cited the World Health Organization to spread the misinformation that the global death rate of COVID-19 was 3.4%. Years later, the WHO’s much-expanded dataset now shows the real global case fatality rate is less than 1%. However, at the time, when the President of the United States correctly pointed out the figure was inflated, he was viciously attacked for “downplaying” the virus, as the WHO’s misleading statistic was regurgitated in the press.
Maybe a Noam Chomsky quotation applies: "If you quietly accept and go along no matter what your feelings are, ultimately you internalize what you're saying, because it's too hard to believe one thing and say another ... Go to any elite university and you are usually speaking to very disciplined people, people who have been selected for obedience."

And two things were conflated: Case Fatality Rate (CFR) and Infection Fatality Rate (IFR). Trump actually was talking about Infection Fatality Rate and he was correct although maybe he dud not understand there was a difference. I think it settled at around 0.2% to 0.6% - similar to ‘flu. But in any case, the WHO turds did not make it clear the 3.4% was CFR (mistake ?) and in fact the clowns at Imperial College London mistakenly (?) used CFR in their crappy computer modelling to get their Infection Fatality numbers 500 000 deaths in the UK, 2 million dead in the US. I believe the actual CFR was 2% to 3% - about the same for a bad ‘flu strain. Also both fatality rates were not across the board being highest among the elderly in poor health and immune compromised individuals. For under 70 in good health, they were negligible.
