During Bernie, she was bold, courageous, passionate, dedicated, and she influenced a lot of people with her words and her takes and her expressions and her personal appearances at his rallies and at the DNC convention.
After the Bernie debacle of 2016, after Trump took office, she made a detour. In reading what was written about her demise, it was clear that she had issues going back for many years regarding depression and had issues with the pharma solutions perscribed for her. She was never shy about talking to her audience about how she felt, either, when she was low. Many of her listeners, though, could never understand why she just suddenly vanished around, what, 2018, 2019, and removed every trace of herself on the internet, all of her work gone. She took everything down. The only things to survive are downloads a small handful of people thought to make on some video that happened to move them. Why would you do that, after years of producing so much good work, just strip it all down?
So several years passed, we never saw her again. Pandemic came and went, and then we get the news she is dead at 51 years old. I have to admit, Bill, I was shocked, but I was not surprised. The thing with Debbie is that she tried so hard to uncover things and connect dots and to try and convey things to her audience, but if you didn't agree with her, she would become angry and started blocking, etc. So, there were signs some time before that the sands below her feet were shifting. What Rambaut is saying is that the process was evolution, but that could have been in nature (natural selection by definition is in nature) or steered evolution in a lab (artificial selection like the cell culture practices of the Baric lab that had been adopted by Shengli's lab).
